The visor was invented by William Bower in London for sports like horseback riding and golf. In 1860, the Brooklyn Execsiors wore headwear with a visor to shade their eyes while playing baseball. The New York Knickerbockers wore straw hats with a visor on April 24, 1849.
In 1903, Spalding introduced the first stitched visor, which became the standard for baseball caps. In the 1940s, the cap with a latex rubber visor became the cap of choice for all major league baseball teams.
Visors were most popular in the early 1990s. Today, visor caps can be seen at many big fashion houses, like Dior, Prada, Burberry, and Clyde.
Open-top design, allowing for better ventilation.
Visor caps started to show up in the 1970s in outdoor sports, especially golf, tennis, and volleyball. In the 1990s they became popular again and began to be worn by non-athletes at sunny outdoor events. Nearly three decades later they are making a strong comeback: Visor caps are once again en vogue.
A visor is a great way to add flair to a casual ensemble. Go with a pair of well-fitting jeans and a casual top like a t-shirt or crop top. You could also throw on a sweater or hoodie if the weather is cool enough. Put on some comfy sneakers or a pair of flats. Complete your look with a stylish visor.
A visor can be for both fashion and function. Visors look great with bathing suits. If you're wearing a one-piece or a bikini, slip on some high-waisted shorts when you're lounging poolside or on the beach. Put on a visor to help keep the sun out of your eyes and add a little extra something to your look.
